Beyond the Form

The shift from Kun to Peng is less about transformation and more about transcendence. It is the moment the spirit outgrows its own definition. When the Kun no longer sees itself as a fish of the deep, it rises on the wind, looking down to see the world in its unfiltered, absolute reality.

——Hattie

  • Kun and Peng originate from the "Enjoyment in Untroubled Ease" chapter of Zhuangzi. Kun is a giant fish of the northern deep, so vast its size is unknown; Peng is the colossal bird into which the Kun transforms, with wings like clouds covering the sky. While often symbolizing great ambition in literature, philosophically, they represent the elevation of one's spiritual realm and a radical shift in perspective.
